Should we remodel half the home?

Our home is outdated and we want to sell. We could afford to remodel half the home, but is it worth it? Does it look weird if only 1 floor of our 2 story home is renovated? Or would the increase in home value outweigh the cost of the reno?

Only if it increases value more than it costs. Most sellers do best with paint, flooring, and light updates instead of major remodels.

It can depend on if the market is climbing in your area or dropping. Most of the time it is not preferred to remodel and pay the expense to do things that your not sure if the next buyer will prefer. If the home is severally outdated or in disrepair than that could be a different situation. It can be a good idea to get a local agent out to assess and give you recommendations.

This depends on your ultimate goal. Are you looking to NET more money? Is the renovations that you are doing going to cost more than you would get out of them? Then NO, sell it for the right price based on the condition. Or Are you looking to sell it faster... A Professional Local REALTOR can walk through the home and give you a better direction of the options to get the most from the home sale. Sometimes it is as simple as some paint and flooring and that is all dependant on what is going on in your local market! I would have a local REALTOR come look at the house in person and give you some advice for your specific situation.

Hi, That is a great question and the specifics of the answer really depends on our market. However, in general it is preferable not to do any renovation if you cannot do the entire property since matching all the upgrades might be difficult for the buyer. Also, in most cases, the buyer will question the reason why only half the property was renovated and will not be prepared to pay the added value of the upgrade. However, I would definitely ask the opinion of an expert in your area: https://www.fastexpert.com/rsp/agni-mitra-78257/ to give a second opinion. Good luck! Agni
